Spring Allergies: Notes from the Nurses
Symptoms of COVID-19 and seasonal allergies can sometimes overlap. Special consideration must be taken during the pandemic to ensure the safety of all students and staff. Your school nurses will continue to follow the most up to date COVID-19 School Exclusion Recommendations when evaluating whether your child must be excluded from school.
Due to the change in the weather, springtime allergies may be flaring up soon. If your child suffers from seasonal allergies, now is the time to contact your child's primary care provider to review and update their medications for seasonal allergies to reduce breakthrough symptoms. Please check with your physician to determine when it would be the best time to start their seasonal allergy medication.
Most allergy medications can be taken at home. Please be sure to administer the medication every morning prior to school. If any medication absolutely needs to be taken at school, even if it is an over-the-counter medication, please be sure you bring the medication to school in the original container along with a completed medication form, which includes the prescriber's signature as well as the parent's signature. Students may not carry medication to or from school. Medication forms can be located on the Health Services website. Please call your school nurse if you would like the form emailed to you.
Remember: Please keep your children home if they are not feeling well in the morning before school.
Thank you for understanding,
Your School Nurses
