On Tuesday, April 14, 2020 the Navarro ISD Board of Trustees selected and named Ms. Wendi Russell as the Finalist for the position of Superintendent of Schools.

By law the Board may not hire the new Superintendent for at least 21 days following the public notice that was given by the Board’s motion.

Ms. Russell is a thirty-year veteran in the field of education. She is currently Interim Superintendent at Pecos-Barstow-Toyah ISD and was previously Assistant Superintendent there and at VanAlstyne ISD. Ms. Russell also has experience as a Middle School Principal, technology consultant, and elementary teacher.

Board President Dr. Greg Gilcrease said that “the Board had thirty-nine qualified and talented applicants. We had a hard time narrowing them, but we selected eight to interview. After those first interviews, we narrowed the field to three. Ms. Russell rose to the top as the best fit to lead our district into the future.”
