Light It Up Red for Dyslexia Awareness Month!

Did you know that 1 in 5 people have dyslexia? Additionally, it’s estimated that 40 million Americans are affected by Dyslexia, but only 2 million know it. October is officially Dyslexia Awareness Month.  Some people do not realize that dyslexia is more than just flipping words and numbers around in one’s mind. Dyslexia is actually a language-based learning difference that can lead to difficulties with word reading and decoding as well as oral reading fluency and spelling. Did you know Albert Einstein had an IQ score of 160 and suffered from Dyslexia?  It's true!  Also, it is estimated that over 50% of NASA employees are identified with dyslexia.  Dyslexia can occur in people of all backgrounds and professions. With proper teaching methods, individuals with dyslexia can be taught successfully.

Even though World Dyslexia Day is celebrated on Oct. 4th each year, Navarro ISD will Light It Up Red for Dyslexia Awareness Month on Tuesday, Oct. 15th.  Everyone is encouraged to wear RED to celebrate Dyslexia Awareness Month and honor our students, our teachers and our staff members who experience dyslexia!
